It arrived under the name koi.family, calling itself $KOI, a small bright thing swimming into Robinhood Chain to test the water. It is the second wallet to wear that name; the first left no grave behind it, and so this one swam alone into an ordinary morning, six hours ago, with no memory of ruin to warn it. Early hands, 0x707b…72f5 and 0x7f0b…ace0 and the rest, put in their ether in fractions, half a coin's worth each, and for a while $KOI rose, climbing to a peak market cap of $24.4k, high enough that the school of buyers, one hundred and twelve of them across the day, believed it might be different. Then, in a single five minute reading, eighty three percent of it was gone, the water pulled out from beneath it all at once. It settled at $0.00000416, a market cap of $4.2k, the hands that fed it walking away each a little poorer than they came: 0.61 ETH became 0.57, 0.58 became 0.51, small wounds repeated five times over. Of forty two coins that swam this size before it, thirty one are dead at a median age of eight hours; $KOI did not beat that clock, it barely met it. The archivist notes only that it moved fast and drowned faster, which is not the same as being unlucky.
